Tawau: Police confirmed they received a report regarding the deaths of a woman and her son yesterday due to food poisoning after a wedding feast at Kampung Batu 4, Jalan Apas here.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Tawau Deputy Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said the report lodged at 10.30 am was made by a 24-year-old woman, the niece of the deceased woman. The complainant stated that her 36-year-old aunt and her nine-year-old eldest son were believed to have suffered from food poisoning after attending the wedding feast in the village last Saturday.
“Based on the husband’s statement, his wife had also brought home some food from the feast, and after consuming it, experienced diarrhoea and vomiting from Sunday morning until Monday evening,” said Supt Champin in a statement today.
Champin further stated that the Ministry of Health is still probing the exact cause of the food poisoning. Meanwhile, the police forensic team is also investigating the case. “The case has been classified as sudden death. The post-mortem on both bodies was completed at about 6.30 pm yesterday and revealed no signs of injury,” he added.
He also mentioned that police will continue their investigation, including obtaining statements from other witnesses who attended the feast, to determine whether they also experienced similar symptoms.
