KUALA LUMPUR: An audit will be conducted on the Legal Profession Qualification Board following the discovery that its financial records have not been audited for the past 17 years. Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform), M. Kulasegaran, said the matter is currently under review by the government, and follow-up actions will be taken in line with the government’s commitment to strengthening governance practices.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kulasegaran acknowledged that no audit has been carried out on the Legal Profession Qualification Board for 17 years. This issue was brought to light in response to a question raised in the Special Chamber last week, marking the first time the lack of an audit was made known. The Deputy Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to taking immediate action to ensure that an audit is conducted as soon as possible, aiming to provide all stakeholders with necessary information regarding the Board’s operations and its complian
ce with legal standards.
Kulasegaran’s statement was in response to a supplementary question from Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah), who sought clarity on the reasons behind the Board’s failure to undergo audits and queried about any potential tax exemptions it might have received from the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN).
