Asyraf Wajdi Urges UMNO To End ‘Satay Politics’ To Regain Support In GE16

Bukit gantang: UMNO members at all levels must immediately put an end to the culture of ‘satay politics’ if the party wants to regain its strength and public support in the 16th General Election (GE16), said UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. Using the analogy of satay politics to describe the internal divisions that have plagued UMNO, Asyraf Wajdi stressed that such a culture is among the key factors weakening the party.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Asyraf Wajdi emphasized to the delegates that unity is fundamental and urged the party to avoid the culture of stoking tensions, forming factions within the party, and fuelling conflict among leaders and members. He explained that the satay politics analogy represents the various roles in sowing discord, including those who skewer, fan the flames, grill, and flip issues back and forth, all of which must stop.

He was speaking to reporters after opening the Bukit Gantang UMNO divisional meeting. Asyraf Wajdi further added that UMNO must also return to its core foundation and principles of defending the interests of religion, race, and the nation. He insisted that anything distracting the party from this mission, including the culture of satay politics, must be eradicated.
