According to BERNAMA News Agency, Malaysian Basketball Association (MABA) president Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock stated that the team's coach will also receive a serviced apartment unit worth more than RM400,000 in addition to RM100,000 cash if he can guide the national squad to gold in the Land of the Rising Sun. "If they (players) win a bronze medal, each player will get a RM10,000 reward, and the coach will get double (RM20,000) and if they win a silver, it will be RM20,000 and the coach will get double (RM40,000)," he said. Tian Hock made these announcements at a press conference following the handover ceremony of the Jalur Gemilang to the national basketball squad for the 2026 Asian Games and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women's Under-1 8 (B18) Asian Cup Division A. He emphasized that the incentives aim to boost the players' enthusiasm, encouraging them to deliver their best performance at the quadrennial sports games. MABA is targeting at least one medal at the 2026 Asian Games, with high hopes pinned on the men's 3x3 event to secure a bronze. The national basketball squad will compete in three events at the Asian Games: women's (5x5) and men's and women's 3x3 basketball. The women's (5x5) team has been drawn in Group C with South Korea, Taiwan, and Mongolia. The men's 3x3 team will face China, Iran, and Hong Kong in Group B, while the women's 3x3 team in Group C will compete against Mongolia, the Philippines, and Macau. The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are set to occur from September 19 to October 4. Additionally, Malaysia will host Division A of the FIBA Women's Under-18 (B18) Asian Cup in Seremban from October 4 to 10, with the team placed in Group B alongside China, Japan, and Taiwan.
