Johor bahru: Transport Minister Anthony Loke has described Malaysia’s successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit 2025 as an outstanding achievement that demonstrates the country’s capability to organise world-class international events. He said the summit drew the attention of global powers and international leaders, reflecting the high level of respect and confidence in Malaysia’s ability as host.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Loke remarked that the summit was remarkable, extending beyond the usual ASEAN member states and its three traditional partners-China, Japan, and South Korea. He highlighted that the event also garnered attention from the United States, South American nations like Brazil, North American countries such as Canada, as well as Australia, New Zealand, and the European Union.
The DAP secretary-general further emphasized that this recognition reflects growing confidence in Malaysia’s foreign policy and its active role in peace facilitation efforts in Cambodia and Thailand during its chairmanship. He noted that this success elevates Malaysia’s standing on the global stage, which will have long-term benefits for the country’s citizens.
Loke also mentioned that strong ties with major powers could unlock new trade opportunities, including emerging markets such as Brazil and South Africa. He asserted that expanding exports globally would attract more investments and create job opportunities, particularly in Johor, which is now gaining international attention.
Furthermore, Loke stated that the successful hosting of the ASEAN Summit bolstered public service confidence in the stability of the Unity Government, following a period of political uncertainty between 2020 and 2022. He concluded by affirming that the government has not only survived the past three years but has also successfully led and stabilized the country.
