Kuala lumpur: Public trust in the Malaysian Army cannot be built through slogans alone, but must be strengthened through firm and consistent professionalism, accountability, and integrity at all levels of administration and operations, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said. In a Facebook post today, Anwar said he stressed the matter during a courtesy call by the newly appointed Army Chief, General Datuk Azhan Md Othman, at his office in Parliament.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, beyond discussing the Army's strategic role as the nation's defence backbone, the Prime Minister underscored the need to ensure the institution remains credible, authoritative, and free from practices that could undermine the image of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF). Anwar emphasized the importance of addressing current challenges, including abuse of power and corruption, which can tarnish institutional integrity. He highlighted that there can be no compromise on breaches of trust, demanding transparency, honesty, and the courage to address weaknesses to safeguard the dignity of the Malaysian Armed Forces.
Anwar further stated that the MADANI Government will continue to support efforts to ensure the Army remains a respected, professional, and credible force, while safeguarding the welfare of officers, personnel, their families, and veterans. Azhan, who previously served as Chief of Staff of the MAF Headquarters, was appointed the 31st Army Chief, effective January 1.
