Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the commendations from leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for Malaysia’s successful hosting of the recent 47th ASEAN Summit highlight the nation’s ability to lead with wisdom and determination.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar received these commendations during an informal meeting with leaders on the sidelines of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM). ‘I had the opportunity to have a casual meeting with fellow leaders. We exchanged views on various current and regional issues, including efforts to strengthen a more equitable and resilient economic cooperation, in a warm and friendly atmosphere,’ Anwar stated in a statement.
Earlier, Anwar was welcomed by South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who greeted all APEC economic leaders, followed by a photo session. Among the APEC leaders present at the AELM were Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, and Chilean President Gabriel Boric.
Malaysia is one of APEC’s 12 founding member countries along with Australia, Brunei, Canada, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and the US.
