Ampang jaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has raised concerns over the necessity of requiring individuals detained during investigations to wear orange detention garb before they are formally charged in court.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized the need to reconsider this practice to prevent fostering negative perceptions of individuals who are still under investigation and have not yet faced formal charges. "I said yesterday that before prosecution, or before a person is brought to court and charged, there is no need to wear orange detention garb," Anwar stated. He further noted, "So far, I respect the view that if someone is cooperating with an investigation, there is no need to make them wear orange detention garb because it creates a different perception."

The Prime Minister's remarks were made following Friday prayers at Masjid Bukit Indah in Ampang Jaya. This discussion comes in the wake of an incident on Tuesday where a former minister appeared in court wearing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's orange detention garb. The minister was brought for a remand application linked to an investigation into a hotel lease involving Lembaga Tabung Haji in Saudi Arabia.
