Anwar to Promote Perodua’s Electric Vehicle at G20 Summit

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will promote Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd’s (Perodua) first electric vehicle (EV) while attending next week’s G20 Summit in South Africa. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, stated that he would seize the opportunity to promote the EV during his official visit to the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar quipped, ‘I will be the chief marketing officer for Perodua, promoting the EV to South Africa,’ during an engagement session with the staff of Perodua’s factory. Anwar’s itinerary also includes official visits to Ethiopia and Kenya, aiming to strengthen economic ties and promote Malaysian innovations.

Furthermore, Anwar mentioned that Brazil is anticipated to facilitate easier access for Malaysian-made products, including Perodua’s EV. This expectation was conveyed to him by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during their meeting at the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in October.

Anwar emphasized that while the domestic market remains a priority for the new EV, efforts are underway to penetrate international markets. The Prime Minister’s promotional activities at the G20 Summit are seen as a strategic move to introduce Malaysian automotive advancements to a global audience.
