Anwar To Meet Ahmad Zahid Over Johor Polls

Johor bahru: Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says he intends to meet UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to discuss current political developments concerning the next Johor State Election. The Prime Minister expressed his hope that the discussion could be conducted harmoniously for the mutual benefit of both parties.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar remarked, "I hope that, although the announcement has been made (by Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi yesterday), I will meet the UMNO president and negotiate properly. Why should we fight over it? Where we were lacking, we have helped a lot, helped everyone." He emphasized the importance of collaboration over conflict, noting that disputes at the leadership level could lead to divisions among supporters. He made these comments during his address at the Prime Minister's Meet-the-People Programme with Johoreans at the open hall of the Taman Desa Mutiara People's Housing Programme (PPR).

Anwar's remarks came in response to a statement by Onn Hafiz that UMNO and Barisan Nasional were ready to contest all 56 Johor state seats in the upcoming election, following approval from the party leadership.

Furthermore, Anwar urged voters to show strong support for PH candidates if the coalition decides to contest in the election. He also called on political leaders to maintain regular engagement with the public, rather than limiting their presence to election periods. Anwar stressed the significance of sincerity in public service and advised against leaders only seeking to contribute as elections approach.
