Melaka: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has addressed allegations concerning a purported rift with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, affirming that their relationship remains amicable.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar dismissed claims made by former UMNO Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who suggested that ties between the two leaders had weakened. Anwar described Khairy's assertion as merely a personal opinion, emphasizing a difference in perspective. "That is his personal view. He always looks at things from the perspective of conflict. I look at things from the perspective of peace... and that is the difference. He takes the confrontational path, while I take the peaceful path," Anwar commented to reporters following his presidential address at the 2026 PKR National Congress held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC).

Anwar, who also serves as the president of PKR and the chairman of Pakatan Harapan (PH), highlighted in his speech the significant role Ahmad Zahid has played in the establishment of the Unity Government post-15th General Election (GE15). He conveyed his gratitude towards Ahmad Zahid, who is both the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and UMNO president, for facilitating the initial formation of the government. "That is why I thanked Datuk Seri Zahid and UMNO in my speech earlier for their role, as BN chairman, in establishing the Unity Government at the initial stage," Anwar remarked.

The allegations by Khairy, which surfaced yesterday, suggested a decline in trust between Anwar and Ahmad Zahid, citing growing tensions between BN and PH. This situation reportedly intensified after BN opted to collaborate with Perikatan Nasional (PN) during the Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN).

In response, the Prime Minister articulated that any disagreements within the party or among parties supporting the Unity Government could be addressed and resolved through dialogue and a non-confrontational approach.
