Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his congratulations to the medical team at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for their groundbreaking achievement in successfully performing a liver transplant on a four-month-old baby boy last November.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Prime Minister highlighted that this accomplishment underscores the high level of expertise, professionalism, and dedication of healthcare personnel in the nation, particularly in executing complex and high-risk medical procedures. He expressed his commendation through a post on X, celebrating the medical team's historic success in operating on the infant who weighed 6.2 kilogrammes.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad disclosed in a Facebook post that the infant was suffering from liver failure and urgently needed a liver transplant from his mother on November 25. Despite the high-risk nature of the procedure, attributed to the delicate condition of the baby's blood vessels, the surgery was successfully completed due to the proficiency of the surgeons, anaesthetists, and nurses at UMMC.
