Anwar Ibrahim’s One-Day Visit to Penang and Kedah Focuses on Healthcare, Culture, and Heritage

Penang: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is embarking on a one-day working visit to Penang and Sungai Petani, Kedah, where he will participate in several official programs, including the inauguration of the Guar Kepah Archaeological Gallery in Penaga.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, will start his visit with the official opening of the new Seberang Jaya Hospital building in Perai. This facility aims to expand healthcare capacity and improve service quality for residents in Seberang Perai and nearby areas.

Following this, the former Permatang Pauh MP will attend the opening ceremony of the MADANI Cultural Carnival and Kenduri Rakyat Penang 2026 in Permatang Pauh. Anwar will then proceed to officiate the opening of Masjid Jamek Kubang Ulu in Kubang Semang.

In the latter part of the day, Anwar is scheduled to participate in the official opening of the Seberang Perai Aspire Centre and the Santuni Komuniti program at the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) Tower compound. He will then inaugurate the Guar Kepah Archaeological Gallery, a significant initiative by the Penang government to enhance the archaeological tourism map of northern Peninsular Malaysia.

The gallery is set to display national heritage artifacts, including the Guar Kepah Skeletal Collection, and the original storage boxes returned from the Netherlands last year. Located at the Bukit Cengkerang Kepah site, it holds evidence of a Neolithic community in Penang dating back 5,000 to 6,000 years.

Anwar's visit will conclude with the Closing Ceremony of the 'Gema Pendekar MADANI' Northern Zone 2026 Gathering and the Pendekar Utama Negara Dato' Dr Raja Abdul Majid Cup open silat championship at Dewan Kenangan, Sungai Petani Municipal Council, Kedah, at 8.30 pm.
