Yong Peng:Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has conveyed his condolences following the death of secondary student Irene Sofiya Mohd Khairoul Faisal, whose body was discovered with injuries at a school in Yong Peng, Johor.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the prime minister expressed his sympathies to the family of the Form Four student in a Facebook post, praying for their strength and resilience during this challenging time.

Anwar has called for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to determine the cause of the incident and clarify what transpired. He emphasized that if criminal elements are involved, decisive legal action must be taken.

He also highlighted the importance of child safety as a collective responsibility, stating that the government is committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children without compromise.

Irene Sofiya, 16, was found dead around 5.30 pm in a secondary school hall in Yong Peng. Her body was discovered by her grandmother and a friend after she did not return home, despite her extra classes having concluded. The injuries on her body suggest she may have been murdered.
