Anwar Ibrahim to Meet AU Commission Chairperson and Deliver Lecture on Ethiopia Visit

Addis ababa: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to meet African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf today. The meeting is part of Anwar’s official visit itinerary to Ethiopia, which marks the final day of his three-day stay in the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the AU, consisting of 55 member states, serves as Africa’s united voice on the international stage, with a key mission to foster global cooperation. After engaging with the AU Commission Chairperson, Anwar will address the Pan-African Youth Union and Ethiopia Youth Council with a special lecture titled ‘Bridging Civilisations, Building Futures: Strengthening Afro-Malaysia Partnership for Shared Prosperity.’

Anwar’s visit will conclude after he receives a courtesy call from the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council. Ethiopia, known for its multi-ethnic composition of over 80 ethnic groups, predominantly practices Christianity, followed by Islam.

Following his engagements in Addis Ababa, Anwar will travel to Johannesburg, South Africa, to participate in the G20 Leaders’ Summit from today until November 23. He will then continue to Nairobi, Kenya, from November 23 to 24, before returning to Malaysia.

Anwar’s visit to Ethiopia is notable as it is the first by a Malaysian Prime Minister and serves as a reciprocal visit following Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr Abiy Ahmed Ali’s trip to Malaysia in October of the previous year. This visit also coincides with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Ethiopia, which commenced in January 1965.
