Kota kinabalu: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to be integrated into the national narrative, emphasizing its significance beyond the confines of Sabah and Sarawak.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar stressed the importance of this approach to ensure that Malaysians recognize the government's commitment to MA63 as a component of the MADANI Government's national policy. He highlighted its connection to Malaysia's development, stability, and unity.

Anwar emphasized that this understanding should be embraced by individuals across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak as a unified national policy and commitment. He proposed that discussions on MA63 be incorporated into the national narrative to prevent it from being perceived as a regional issue. The Prime Minister asserted that this would foster a broader discourse among Malaysians, moving beyond discussions centered solely on race, party, or group affiliations.

During a press conference following the 2026 Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Anwar was accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Anwar also addressed the perception in Peninsular Malaysia regarding additional allocations or measures under MA63, urging that they should not be seen as mere special considerations for Sabah and Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Premier Abang Johari supported the proposal to integrate MA63 into a national framework, noting its alignment with provisions in the Federal Constitution to bolster Malaysia's unity. He emphasized the practicality of this approach in balancing the interests of the Federal Government, Sabah, and Sarawak, particularly in areas of finance and national development.
