Anwar Emphasizes Urgency of Reform While in Power

Bukit beruntung: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has underscored the importance of implementing changes and reforms while still holding office, warning against the tendency to become vocal about necessary reforms only after leaving government.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar pointed out that many leaders, despite being given the mandate as Prime Minister or minister, often fail to enact the necessary changes during their tenure, leading to a cycle of inaction and subsequent criticism. Speaking at the 'Hari Keluarga and Rapat Reformis Kebangsaan 2026' event, Anwar emphasized the need for reforms to be pursued in a rational and wise manner, involving consultation with party leaders.

The event was attended by key government figures, including Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Anwar, who is also the president of PKR, acknowledged the challenges of implementing change, given the varying priorities among parties within the Unity Government.

The Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to its reform agenda, particularly in combating corruption and misuse of power. He stressed that the principles of rejecting corruption and arrogance remain non-negotiable. Additionally, Anwar highlighted the significance of maintaining the independence of the judiciary and ensuring integrity in governance as central to the MADANI Government's reform objectives.

During the event, Anwar expressed gratitude to PKR veterans for their contributions and proposed the establishment of a Veterans Unit in each party division to leverage their experience and strengthen grassroots organization. The Prime Minister also launched the halal logo certification for Gula Rahmah, a product offered at RM2.70 per kilogramme, in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living under the Malaysia MADANI framework.

A statement by HMBE Legacy Sdn. Bhd. revealed that the Gula Rahmah initiative involves 100 per cent Bumiputera SMEs and adheres to food safety and quality standards, marking a significant step in supporting local enterprises.
