Kuala Lampur:Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has commended the 22 young Malaysian competitors at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, highlighting them as the pride of the nation. He emphasized the importance of skilled workers in sustaining a modern, technology-driven economy.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar addressed the plenary session of the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 Conference and Expo, where he praised the participants for their dedication and skill, noting that their involvement allows Malaysia to measure its standards against the global best and identify areas for improvement.

The Malaysian team is competing in 21 skill areas among approximately 1,400 young professionals from over 65 countries and regions. Malaysia has been participating in this event consistently since 1995.

Anwar, who also serves as the Finance Minister, pointed out that young skilled workers are essential to the functioning of modern economies, despite advancements in machinery and software. He stressed the necessity of technicians who understand and maintain complex systems, such as semiconductor lines and electric vehicle plants.

He further mentioned that attracting youth to technical and skilled professions requires clear career advancement prospects and the potential for better livelihoods. Anwar highlighted the need for society to recognize the broader contributions of young people beyond economic aspects, citing their roles in championing social justice and addressing inequality.

The Prime Minister underscored the significance of the energy and dynamism of youth in economic progress, advocating for societal improvement and poverty eradication, as well as the critical role of skilled individuals in leveraging technology and attracting capital investment.
