Glasgow: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his congratulations to national track cyclist Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang for his remarkable achievement in winning the men's keirin gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar took to X to highlight the significance of this victory, which marks the end of a 16-year quest for Azizulhasni to clinch the Commonwealth Games men's keirin title. Anwar praised the cyclist's determination and perseverance, noting that this achievement has brought honor to Malaysia on the global stage and serves as an inspiration to all Malaysians.

The victory unfolded at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow, where Azizulhasni, a Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medallist, triumphed over Australia's Leigh Hoffman and England's Harry Ledingham-Horn, who took silver and bronze, respectively. Another Malaysian competitor, Muhammad Shah Firdaus Sahrom, finished in seventh place.

This gold medal adds to Azizulhasni's impressive track record at the Commonwealth Games, having previously secured bronze medals in the team sprint in 2010 and the keirin in 2014. The triumph also represents Malaysia's seventh gold medal at Glasgow 2026 and the national track cycling team's first gold medal of this edition.
