New delhi: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto engaged in discussions regarding the pressing issue of forest fires and ongoing developments in the West Asia conflict during their meeting at the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar highlighted that the conversation with President Prabowo included the significant impact of forest fires, which have been a major environmental concern due to the smoke affecting neighboring countries, including Malaysia. The two leaders also deliberated on the developments in West Asia, emphasizing the need for consensus and joint action to address these issues effectively.

The discussions took place against the backdrop of a severe forest and land fire season in Indonesia, particularly impacting regions such as Kalimantan and Sumatra. Anwar utilized the opportunity at the Summit's Gala Dinner to extend an invitation to Prabowo for an official visit to Malaysia. This invitation aims to facilitate further discussions and resolutions on several outstanding bilateral issues between the two countries.

Anwar arrived in New Delhi to participate in the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit, which is set to conclude today. Following the Summit, Anwar will continue his working visit to Keralam, a state on the Malabar Coast in southern India. This marks his second official visit to India as Prime Minister, following his initial visit in August 2024. Anwar is scheduled to depart for the Maldives tomorrow (Sept 14).
