ANPR Toll System Moves to Request For Proposal Stage, Says Works Minister

George town: The open payment toll collection system utilizing Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology is currently at the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. The Works Ministry (KKR) is inviting all interested parties to submit proposals for the implementation of this barrier-free toll system, which is part of strategic measures aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nanta emphasized the use of a business-to-business approach and stated that proposals from interested parties are still being accepted. He noted that the implementation of the barrier-free toll system is anticipated to be finalized next year. “We do not want to rush and need to pay close attention to details given its major implications for various parties,” Nanta mentioned during a press briefing after visiting the slope repair project on the FT006 route, Section 40.84 of Jalan Balik Pulau-Teluk Bahang.

The ANPR system functions by identifying vehicle registration numbers with cameras, facilitating digital toll payments without the need for cash. Additionally, it offers e-invoice displays, transaction verification, and a range of other mobility services via an integrated digital platform. Users are required to register online using their personal identification, vehicle details, and preferred payment method.

Nanta also shared that KKR has conducted a comprehensive study by examining the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in several developed countries. “I have just returned from Korea with representatives from the Public Works Department (JKR) and KKR. We have also visited other countries several times to observe how they implement ITS,” he stated.
