Another Flood Relief Centre Opens In Segamat

Segamat: The number of people evacuated from flood-affected areas in Johor rose to 148 from 50 families as at 8 am today, up from 103 as of last night. State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman announced that a relief centre (PPS) was opened this morning, bringing the total to seven centres operating in the Segamat district.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the new PPS at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Tah Kang was opened at 8 am, accommodating 34 people from 13 families. Meanwhile, 40 people from 12 families are taking shelter at the Kampung Batu Badak Community Hall, 17 people from six families are at Kampung Tasek Multipurpose Hall, and five people from one family are at Kampung Jabi Community Hall. Additionally, 14 people from five families are housed at the Kampung Paya Lebar Community Hall, 11 people from five families at the Pekan Air Panas Multipurpose Hall, and 27 people from eight families at the Segamat Kecil Orang Asli Village Multipurpose Hall.

Asman Shah also reported that the levels of two rivers in the district had exceeded the danger points, specifically Sungai Muar at Kampung Awat and Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap. Meanwhile, several areas including Johor Bahru, Mersing, Segamat, Kluang, Kota Tinggi, and Kulai experienced rain this morning, while Muar and Batu Pahat were cloudy, and Pontian and Tangkak were clear.
