Kuala Lumpur: Newly appointed Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia (PSM) chairman Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz has set her sights on upgrading sports facilities for the 2027 SEA Games and strengthening financial sustainability as she takes on her new role yesterday.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anita Azrina, who was appointed after serving as deputy chairman since 2023, described the opportunity as a great honour and pledged to continue the progress made under former chairman Datuk Hans Isaac. She expressed her commitment to ensuring that Malaysia’s facilities, infrastructure, and overall readiness meet global standards as the country prepares to host the SEA Games in 2027. Her strategies focus on sustainability through various commercial efforts, such as sponsorships and the full utilisation of facilities for concerts, sports, and events.
Anita Azrina brings extensive experience in corporate leadership, having worked in marketing, business development, event management, and sponsorship at PETRONAS. She believes this experience has prepared her for the role at PSM. Her vision for the future includes transforming PSM-managed facilities into the ultimate hub for national and community sports and entertainment events. Key projects already underway include replacing the track at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil, upgrading the squash stadium, and improving lawn bowl facilities.
She emphasized the need for significant investments, resources, and time to upgrade aging facilities. To maintain these facilities and ensure financial sustainability, Anita Azrina is focusing on increasing sponsorships, maximizing the use of facilities for concerts and events, and integrating digital solutions to improve efficiency. She aims to enhance the experience for sportsmen, women, concertgoers, and spectators while ensuring PSM’s long-term sustainability through good governance and efficient management.
Anita Azrina hopes that within the next two years, PSM will be financially sustainable, and its facilities will become the country’s top venue for sports and entertainment.
