Glasgow: National weightlifter Mohamad Aniq Kasdan plans to use any pressure to help him do his best as he defends his gold medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games here tomorrow. Mohamad Aniq, who will compete in the men's 60 kilogramme (kg) category, said the psychological aspect and self-confidence were important things to focus on to achieve any set target.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohamad Aniq expressed that the presence of pressure is beneficial. 'The pressure will be there. Without pressure, it's not good for us. A bit of pressure is needed so that we can feel the real situation when we're competing. Coaches will always provide confidence to us, so we also need to believe in ourselves and give it all we got. The rest, Allah will decide,' he said when met by Bernama today.
He noted that his preparations were progressing as planned and that his performance and lifts during the training camp in Turkiye have positioned him to go all out in the competition. 'The training in Turkiye met all targets set by the coach. Based on that, we will carry the momentum to Glasgow to do our best,' he said, identifying weightlifters from India and Sri Lanka as his main challengers for tomorrow's competition.
Mohamad Aniq previously clinched the gold medal in the men's 55 kg during his Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham in 2022, narrowly defeating Sanket Mahadev Sargar by a single kg difference. The weightlifting event, commencing tomorrow at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) Armadillo, is scheduled to last for five days.
