Kuala lumpur: The Keadilan Youth Wing (AMK) has called for a comprehensive, transparent, and uncompromising investigation into the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, AMK vice-chief Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari emphasized that the call aligns with the decree by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, urging enforcement agencies to pursue those responsible relentlessly to protect the integrity of the Muslim institution.
The Sungai Petani Member of Parliament highlighted that aside from the RCI's conclusion that allegations of TH assets being sold to non-Muslims were unfounded, the investigation should concentrate on three crucial areas. These include weaknesses in governance and political interference, shortcomings in financial reporting and loss recognition, and the distribution of hibah (profit distribution) that did not reflect the institution's actual financial status.
Taufiq noted that the RCI identified the involvement of politicians in senior positions at TH and the influence of political considerations on key decisions. He cited an example from the 2017 financial reporting, where TH reported a profit of about RM3.4 billion, whereas its actual position showed a net loss of RM1.4 billion after adjustments. This discrepancy had led to decisions to distribute hibah at high rates despite TH's strained financial position, eventually weakening the institution's reserves.
In response to the findings, AMK has urged the Special Enforcement Task Force, which includes the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), to conduct a thorough forensic audit to trace the flow of funds and bring responsible parties to justice for any breach of trust.
Taufiq also advocated for the special Dewan Rakyat sitting on August 11 to serve as a platform for a comprehensive, firm, and transparent debate on the alleged mismanagement. He asserted that individuals who have betrayed and damaged the institution belonging to the Muslim community should not be able to hide behind their positions or political influence, regardless of their party affiliation.
He concluded by stating that the issues surrounding TH are not merely ordinary financial irregularities but represent a betrayal of the trust placed in it by the Muslim community.
