Kuala lumpur: Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Malaysia has firmly rejected demands for the dissolution of Parliament following Transport Minister Anthony Loke's offer to resign. The youth wing emphasized that the stability of the government is rooted in the mandate and confidence of the Dewan Rakyat majority, rather than the sentiments expressed by certain quarters.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, AMK vice-chief Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari argued that calls for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to dissolve Parliament do not align with the current position of the MADANI Government. He stressed that the dissolution of Parliament is a constitutional power and should not be wielded as a tool for political leverage.
The push for Parliament's dissolution was initiated by Kedah UMNO Strategic Communications Director Syed Mohd Johan Rizal, who urged the Prime Minister to take action after Loke's resignation offer in response to the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. Despite this, Mohammed Taufiq remarked that Loke's gesture should be seen as a responsible move by a leader rather than an indication of governmental instability. He highlighted that any decision regarding the resignation would ultimately rely on the Prime Minister's acceptance.
Further dismissing claims of an unstable government, the Youth and Sports Minister pointed to Malaysia's significant economic growth. The country's GDP rose to 6.0 percent in the second quarter of 2026, up from 5.4 percent in the first quarter, a feat he argued would be impossible for a government in decline. This economic performance, he noted, reflects the policy stability valued by both the public and investors.
Additionally, the Sungai Petani MP cautioned that calling for snap elections could lead to uncertainty, disrupt ongoing initiatives, and impose financial burdens on the nation. He reminded that UMNO, being part of the Unity Government, has committed to remaining until the end of its term, as reiterated by UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq concluded by stating that the public does not benefit from elections driven by political theatrics. Instead, the populace needs a government that is functional, an economy that continues to grow, and living costs that are managed through effective policies.
