Kuala Lumpur: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has confirmed that he will defend his position in the party’s central leadership election on May 24, citing the need for stability within the party and the Unity Government. The Selangor Menteri Besar emphasized that strengthening PKR’s position in Selangor is crucial, as the state’s stability would have a broader impact nationwide.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin expressed his belief that a united Selangor would pave the way for unity and strength in other states as well. He affirmed the party’s support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, highlighting the importance of continued backing from Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli as deputy president. Amirudin reiterated his commitment to standing as vice-president to ensure a strong and united front moving forward.
Amirudin made these remarks at the opening of the annual general meetings of the Selangor PKR divisions, as well as the women’s and youth wings. The event was officiated by the Prime Minister and PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Other notable attendees included party deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, Wanita chief Fadhlina Sidek, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief Adam Adli, and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who also serves as the party’s Information chief.
Previously, Amirudin had indicated that he would decide whether to contest the PKR deputy president position after consulting with the Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Rafizi Ramli urged party members to actively counter the opposition’s accusations against the government and ensure the smooth implementation of policies and initiatives. He stressed the need for PKR to enhance its digital content and revive its traditional strength in political rallies. Rafizi encouraged members to maintain momentum by organizing weekly ceramah, which he believes are crucial for generating digital content and creating a political wave ahead of the next general election.
