AMEM-43 Achieves Key 2025 Energy Goals Under Malaysia’s Leadership

Kuala lumpur: The 43rd ASEAN Ministers On Energy Meeting (AMEM-43) has successfully achieved the 2025 Priority Economic Deliverables (PED) and several critical initiatives under the leadership of Malaysia, announced Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah, who also serves as the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, highlighted the endorsement of an enhanced Memorandum of Understanding on the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), aiming to bolster regional interconnectivity. Additionally, the meeting saw the approval of the new ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030, which will guide the region’s energy strategy for the next five years, and the ASEAN Petroleum Security Agreement (APSA) Successor Agreement.

Fadillah emphasized that these achievements demonstrate ASEAN’s commitment to accelerating energy transition towards sustainability and inclusivity, ensuring no Member State or community is left behind. He shared these remarks during the AMEM-43 and its associated meetings and the 25th ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF-25) Joint Opening Ceremony.

Further accomplishments during AMEM-43 included the launch of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) Financing Initiative, supported by the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank, with a pledged commitment exceeding USD12 billion. Other significant endorsements included the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Framework for ASEAN, the Nuclear Power Plant Development Framework, the finalization of Submarine Power Cable Terms of References, and the Renewable Energy Long-term Roadmap.

The meeting also saw the introduction of the ASEAN Energy Efficiency Database and Investment Platform and the establishment of the ASEAN School of Regulation (ASR), which Malaysia will lead. Fadillah reiterated ASEAN’s future focus on coordinating projects, harmonizing technical standards, and translating plans into actionable outcomes.

He noted that this year’s AMEM theme, ‘Powering ASEAN: Bridging Boundaries, Building Prosperity’, encapsulates ASEAN’s commitment to deeper integration, enhanced resilience, and ensuring that all Member States reap the benefits of energy transition. As the host, Malaysia is prepared to collaborate closely with all ASEAN Member States, dialogue partners, and international organizations to promote this collective vision. Fadillah concluded by urging for unity and commitment to concrete and transformative outcomes, aspiring for ASEAN to emerge as a regional leader in global energy transition.
