Alor Setar: Former Kuala Muda District Officer Datuk Abdul Gafar Yahya has been appointed as the eighth Mayor of Alor Setar, effective today. Abdul Gafar, 54, takes over the position from Datuk Mohd Yusri Md Daud, who retired on January 30.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the swearing-in ceremony took place at the Meeting Hall of UTC in the city. This appointment marks a significant transition in the local administration as Abdul Gafar steps into his new role.
