Kuala Lumpur:The AllStar Legends match at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) generated a positive response, encouraging organiser AllStar Sports to plan similar events in the future. The event featured former English Premier League (EPL) stars and global football icons, drawing significant interest from local fans.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, AllStar Sports Project Director Steven Windsor stated that the match served as a platform for fans to connect with world-renowned former players and fulfilled the demand for more interactive football experiences. Windsor expressed intentions to host additional events, bringing in new legends as requested by fans.
Despite a venue change that could have inconvenienced supporters, Windsor noted the success of the event was highly encouraging. He also mentioned that their partnership with World Football Legends grants access to a wide network of former international players, enabling them to introduce new faces in future editions.
The AllStar Legends match, a continuation of the Battle of the Reds exhibition, was played in a 5-a-side indoor format. The AllStar Premier League Legends squad included former EPL stars like John Arne Riise, Eidur Gudjohnsen, Danny Simpson, Ryan Giggs, Steven Gerrard, David Bentley, Michael Owen, and former national defender Syed Adney Syed Hussein. The AllStar World Legends squad featured players such as Javier Saviola, Jaap Stam, Fernando Morientes, Diego Capel, Dida, Alessandro Del Piero, Gregory van der Wiel, and former national goalkeeper Razman Roslan.
The match concluded with the AllStar Premier League Legends narrowly defeating the AllStar World Legends 7-6. Steven Gerrard scored four goals, with John Arne Riise, David Bentley, and Michael Owen also contributing. The AllStar World Legends scored through Jaap Stam, Razman Roslan, Diego Capel, Fernando Morientes, and two goals from Javier Saviola.
