Kuala lumpur: All 113 refugees temporarily housed at the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) since yesterday have been moved to a facility designated by the Kaladan non-governmental organisation (NGO). Brickfields police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook confirmed that the group, which includes an Iraqi man, a Somali woman, and an Indonesian woman married to a Rohingya refugee, left the police headquarters around 4 pm. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus stated that the refugees were handed over to Kaladan, an NGO based in Ampang, Selangor. The management of the refugees has now been entrusted to Kaladan, with the oldest refugee being 60 years old and the youngest a one-month-old infant. Fadil further mentioned that all the refugees were verified to possess valid United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) documents following thorough documentation checks. The group comprises 36 adult men, 21 adult women, 31 boys, and 22 girls, all identified as Rohi ngya refugees. The refugees arrived in Kuala Lumpur early yesterday morning in three buses after being evicted by local residents from their settlement in Penang. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban had previously stated that the department's depot facilities could not accommodate the refugees as they are specifically for foreign nationals without valid travel or identification documents. However, he noted that UNHCR cardholders are allowed to remain in Malaysia on humanitarian grounds, adhering to existing local laws.
