Kuala Lumpur: Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia (AKM) is set to host the Ekspresi Merdeka creative video competition themed “Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni” as part of the celebrations for the 2025 National Day and Malaysia Day. The competition will take place from June 5 to August 8, aiming to engage the public in commemorating the nation’s independence through creative outlets.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced that state-level winners will advance to the national finals, which are scheduled to conclude on September 13. The competition’s main objective is to inspire Malaysians to celebrate the spirit of independence using creative platforms. Additional information regarding the competition can be found on AKM’s official website and social media channels.
Fahmi, who also serves as the MADANI Government spokesperson, mentioned that the state-level prize-giving ceremonies will include interactive nationhood sessions and lucky draws on August 23 and 24, with the national-level finale on September 13. He expressed hope that this initiative will motivate the public to explore more dynamic and relevant forms of patriotic expression.
The programme is a collaborative effort involving government agencies, private companies, and non-governmental organisations, including the Ministry of Education, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Mydin Hypermarket, and the National Association of Tahfiz al-Quran Institutions. On June 11, Fahmi announced that “Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni” has been chosen as the theme for the 2025 National Day and Malaysia Day, with the MADANI logo retained for this year’s celebrations.
The 2025 National Day celebrations are slated for August 31 at Dataran Putrajaya, while Malaysia Day will be celebrated in Penang in accordance with the rotation tradition between Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia.
