Airfares to Sabah and Johor Traffic Issues on Parliament Agenda

Kuala lumpur: Airfares to Sabah during the festive season and congestion on Johor’s main roads are set to be discussed in today’s Dewan Rakyat session.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Vivian Wong Shir Yee (PH-Sandakan) plans to question the Minister of Transport regarding the average one-way airfare from Kuala Lumpur to destinations in Sabah, such as Tawau, Sandakan, and Kota Kinabalu during the festive season. This query is especially pertinent if the government’s RM499 maximum fare programme is not enacted. Moreover, she seeks to find out if there is an intention to mandate airlines to disclose the amount of airfare subsidy provided to passengers during the oral question-and-answer session.

In addition, Muhammad Islahuddin Abas (PN-Mersing) is expected to inquire about the Ministry of Works’ plans to upgrade highways and major roads in Johor, which are increasingly congested due to rising traffic and rapid development in Iskandar Malaysia. This concern is particularly relevant ahead of the launch of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).

Furthermore, Oscar Ling Chai Yew (PH-Sibu) will question the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry on several issues. These include the number of approved data centre projects, their anticipated electricity and water consumption, and how the government plans to balance AI investments with the national resource security.

Following the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will move on to the committee-stage debate on the 2026 Supply Bill (Budget 2026). The Third Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 15th Parliament is scheduled to span 35 days, concluding on December 4.
