Kuala lumpur: AIREI Sdn Bhd, a Malaysia Digital (MD) status company, has launched its second AI-based smart palm oil mill equipped with a larger capacity of 60 tonnes per hour, a notable increase from its first mill's 45 tonnes per hour. The launch event took place at Perak Motor Co (PMC Oil Mill) in Teluk Intan and featured AIREI's proprietary AI system deployed alongside a new partnership with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the collaboration between AIREI and MDEC marks a pivotal development in the palm oil industry, transitioning the conversation from a single company's innovation to a national dialogue on AI's role. AIREI Perak Motor Palm Oil Mill Division managing director Steven Yow Thin Chin highlighted the system's ability to enhance oil extraction rates (OER), reducing human error and operational guesswork. The system has improved OER by 0.1 to 0.2 percent, demonstrating its impact on operational efficiency.
MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil emphasized the strategic importance of palm oil and the benefits of AI adoption for the industry. He noted that the deployment enhances operational efficiency and optimizes resources, aligning with Malaysia Digital 2030 (MD2030) goals to foster innovation, create high-value jobs, and position Malaysia as an AI leader by 2030.
AIREI's AI-based system has shown tangible improvements, including a 13 percent reduction in mesocarp oil losses and a 20 percent decrease in foreign operator dependency, with projections reaching 40 percent. The AI also ensures adherence to operating parameters and provides management with enhanced visibility into mill performance, enabling prompt issue resolution.
AIREI founder and CEO Surendran Kuranadan stated that the AI-based smart mill identifies anomalies, analyzes causes, and maintains milling parameters, reducing oil losses to unprecedented levels. The global interest in this approach is growing, with ASEAN countries and Latin American producers exploring similar AI-based models due to efficiency gains and promising return on investment within 18 to 20 months.
The launch event was attended by representatives from MDEC, Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), industry partners, and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), discussing potential collaborations and internships at the AI-driven mill.
