AirBorneo Sets Consistent RM375 Fare for KL-Kuching Route Year-Round

Kuala lumpur: AirBorneo will maintain its RM375 all-in one-way fare for the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching route throughout the year, as part of efforts to stabilize airfares and provide greater value to travelers, particularly Sarawakians.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, AirBorneo's chief executive officer, Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin, stated that the RM375 fare was determined following a pricing analysis based on fare data over the past six months. He noted that the airline considered fluctuations in fuel prices and benchmark comparisons with other airlines operating the same route.

"We took the first six months, which included some volatility in fuel prices that affected pricing. We also looked at last year's average fares and average lower fares. When we benchmarked, we compared the average lower fares offered by all carriers operating the Kuala Lumpur-Kuching route. The RM375 sits somewhere within that range," Megat Ardian Wira explained during the airline's media roundtable program.

Sarawak's state-owned airline recently opened ticket sales for its Kuala Lumpur route, marking a key milestone in its efforts to enhance air connectivity between the state and Peninsular Malaysia. The new service will operate twice daily between Kuching International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1.

To celebrate the launch, AirBorneo is offering its 'Sarawakku Sayang' fares from RM375 all-in for a one-way Economy Class ticket and RM736 all-in for a one-way Business Class ticket, inclusive of airport taxes and fuel surcharges.

Megat Ardian Wira highlighted that while some carriers may advertise slightly lower base fares, these often do not include additional charges. "One of the main issues raised was the high airfare between Peninsular Malaysia and the Sarawak region. So those are the things that we want to stabilize going forward. That's why we introduced this fare regardless of season, to stabilize fares going forward," he said.

Additionally, Megat Ardian Wira revealed that AirBorneo hopes to become the official airline for the 2027 SEA Games, with plans to expand its regional network and operate charter flights to facilitate the movement of athletes, officials, and supporters to Sarawak. He also mentioned that the airline expects to have scheduled services to two or three ASEAN destinations by the beginning of next year as part of preparations for the biennial games, which Sarawak will co-host.
