Airasia X Refutes Claims of Philippines Airasia Shutdown: Operations Continue Uninterrupted

Kuala lumpur: AirAsia X has firmly dismissed recent media reports suggesting that Philippines AirAsia has ceased operations. "These reports are false and do not reflect the reality of the business or operations of the airline. All flights remain fully operational, with flights and services continuing as scheduled across its network, subject to normal operational considerations such as weather and other standard factors affecting airline operations," AirAsia X asserted in a statement today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the media reports claimed that AirAsia owes approximately PHP271.94 million to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) for air navigation, landing, parking, and passenger service charges accumulated from 2021 through May 2026. However, CAAP has not yet released an official statement regarding this issue.

Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, AirAsia Group co-founder and advisor, reiterated the company's dedication to affordable travel and its opposition to any developments that could harm consumers or restrict air connectivity. "AirAsia carries almost seven million guests in the Philippines annually. Our commitment to the Philippines is absolute. We are deeply invested in the country, its people, and its future," he emphasized.

Fernandes further highlighted AirAsia's significant contribution to making air travel accessible to millions of Filipinos over the past decade. The airline is also investing in new airport infrastructure at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL) and Mactan-Cebu International Airport (CEB) to unlock growth opportunities, improve connectivity, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce costs.

Moreover, Fernandes announced plans to deploy more aircraft into operations in the Philippines, which will allow the airline to expand its network, offer more competitive fares, and continue providing value to Filipino travelers.

AirAsia X has accused the media reports of being part of a coordinated smear campaign aimed at undermining fair competition within the Philippine aviation sector. The airline warned that such narratives serve only those interested in limiting consumer choice and potentially fostering a monopoly in the market.

Philippines AirAsia remains steadfast in its mission to serve the public, support tourism and economic growth, and ensure safe, affordable, and reliable air travel for all Filipinos.
