Kuala lumpur: Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) recorded steady growth in 2025, strengthening the resilience of the water supply system to support rising demand in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Air Selangor announced its acceptance as a member of the Leading Utilities of the World (LUOW) network, marking it as the first Malaysian water service provider to earn this global recognition. This achievement was attributed to strong operational readiness, strategic asset management, and sustainable infrastructure capacity.
Among the notable accomplishments for Air Selangor in 2025 was the reduction of Non-Revenue Water (NRW) to 26.76 per cent, down from 27 per cent in 2024, with a continued focus on meeting the target of 25 per cent by 2030. The company also maintained a healthy water reserve margin of 17.86 per cent as of December 2025, indicating effective supply and demand management.
Air Selangor achieved a pipe burst index of 2.94 cases per 100 kilometres per year, significantly below the international benchmark of 13 cases per 100 kilometres, and reached 99.96 per cent compliance with the Health Ministry's drinking water quality standards, surpassing the 99 per cent benchmark for five consecutive years.
The utility provider advanced the development of reclaimed water treatment plants for industrial and data centre operations, serving two major data centres in the state. Additionally, it distributed 1,963 aid boxes to benefit 1,443 families and supported 260 B40 students with access to Pandai Premium digital learning.
Air Selangor's festive season programmes under the 'Sesama Mara' umbrella, including the 'Rumah Angkat Semai Nurani' initiative, benefited 1,618 recipients by providing holistic support to selected welfare homes.
Looking ahead, Air Selangor plans to emphasize operational resilience, infrastructure sustainability, service reliability, and water security while expanding international engagement. The company aims to strengthen industry leadership and strategic collaborations to address growing demand and climate-related challenges, building on participation in major global forums like the Global Water Summit 2025.
Air Selangor will also enhance interconnectivity across the water supply system for smoother redistribution during disruptions and continue NRW reduction efforts through new performance-based contract tenders.
Construction progress on water treatment plants includes Rasau Phase 1 (700 million litres per day, completion by 2027), Labohan Dagang Phase 2 (200 MLD, by 2029), Langat 2 Phase 2 (1,130 MLD, by 2030), and Rasau Phase 2 (700 MLD, by 2031). The Air Selangor 2.0 application will be upgraded with features like Joy Rewards to boost digital engagement and customer loyalty, including e-billing.
