Kuala lumpur: The success of winning a bronze medal at the 2026 Asian Cup archery tournament has fueled the enthusiasm of national women's compound archer Aina Syazwana Abdul Muhaimin to chase a podium finish in her debut at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The 23-year-old athlete, who helped Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) defend the women's compound team championship of the Higher Education Institutions Sports (SUKIPT) today, said her focus has now shifted to preparing to compete in the games with the target of bringing home at least one medal in the team event.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Aina Syazwana said to ensure that her preparations are at their best, she will be leaving for South Korea to undergo a training camp for more than two weeks before continuing her preparations for the Asian Games. "Tonight I will be leaving for South Korea to undergo a training camp there for more than two weeks," she said when met by Bernama.

She said her experience in the Asian Cup, which saw their pair win bronze, increased her confidence that the medal target in Aichi-Nagoya was not a pipe dream. Commenting on her debut at the Asian Games, Aina Syazwana admitted that she was a little nervous because she had to face the atmosphere of competition on the international stage which was much different compared to domestic tournaments.

"There is a sense of nervousness because we are competing in a big international competition. It is different compared to competitions in Malaysia. We also see their scores are higher, so I will try to do my best," she said. At the same time, the athlete involved has also set a personal target of producing more than 700 points in individual events, in addition to wanting to give her best performance in all her events.

Earlier, the UiTM trio, which also included Nur Alyaa Nazurah Fadzil Fairuz and Umairah Batrisyia Hayat Al-Mazli, defeated the Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) trio 222-216 at the Universiti Malaya (UM) Varsity Field here.
