Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Prisons Department has announced that family visits and reunions with prison inmates will be permitted in conjunction with Aidilfitri on the third and fourth day of Eid across all prison institutions in the country.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the department’s statement specified that these visits will take place at various facilities, including the Moral Rehabilitation Centre, Special Rehabilitation Centre, Special Detention Centre, and Henry Gurney School. The visiting hours are set from 8.15 am to 4.15 pm, with a focus on prioritizing Muslim inmates during this festive period.
Visitors planning to take part in these reunions are required to bring their identification cards and visiting cards. However, they must refrain from bringing food and drinks into the facilities. The department also advised against giving money to inmates, as they are provided with basic necessities. Should visitors wish to give money for specific purposes, such as examination fees, they are advised to obtain an official PPT. 28 receipt as proof of the transaction.
For those unable to visit in person, the Prisons Department has arranged for online meetings, which will be held from April 4 to 6, allowing families to connect with inmates virtually during the festive season.
