Aidilfitri Travel Surge: PLUS Anticipates 2.3 Million Vehicles Daily

Kuala lumpur: PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) is gearing up for an influx of vehicles on its highways, anticipating a daily traffic volume of 2.3 million vehicles during six peak days in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. The expected surge will commence next Wednesday, spanning from March 18 to 20 and March 27 to 29.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PLUS managing director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar highlighted that this forecast marks an increase of over 20 percent compared to usual traffic patterns on the PLUS highway network. The announcement was made at a press conference held at the PLUS Tower, with notable attendees including Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department and Dr Nadzrol Fadzilah Ahmad, deputy director-general (Development) of the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).

PLUS is mobilizing more than 6,000 personnel across strategic locations to ensure smooth travel, while also enhancing amenities at Rest and Service (R and R) areas. These enhancements include the installation of 25 cabin toilets at toll plazas and selected side stops. Nik Airina also mentioned that 34 main locations along the highway will have Smart Lane activated to facilitate seamless travel.

In an advisory to motorists, she urged the public to plan their journeys using the MyPLUS-TTA digital itinerary for travel on the PLUS Highway and East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2). Reflecting on the recent Chinese New Year festivities, she noted that travelers who utilized the MyPLUS-TTA recommendations experienced smoother and shorter journeys, although only 29 percent of users adopted the digital itinerary.
