Kuala lumpur: AIA Public Takaful Bhd has announced the appointment of Mohd Asri Omar as its new chief executive officer, effective August 11, 2025. The company made this announcement in a statement highlighting Mohd Asri’s extensive experience in the insurance and takaful sectors.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Asri brings over 27 years of expertise to the role, with a strong background in agency distribution, business strategy, legal affairs, and Shariah governance. His leadership is expected to further AIA Public Takaful’s focus on delivering a comprehensive Total Shariah Solution. This approach aims to provide sustainable, purpose-driven, and professionally delivered financial protection aligned with Maqasid Shariah principles.
The appointment follows AIA Public Takaful’s achievement of declaring its highest-ever surplus distribution of RM84 million, underscoring the company’s financial strength and dedication to customer value. AIA Malaysia CEO Ben Ng expressed confidence in Mohd Asri’s ability to lead the company into a new phase of growth, emphasizing the importance of his industry experience and Shariah credentials.
Ng stated that Mohd Asri’s leadership would be pivotal in expanding AIA Public Takaful’s agency force to protect more Malaysians and further the mission of helping customers lead healthier, longer, and better lives. Prior to this role, Mohd Asri served as the CEO of Hong Leong MSIG Takaful Bhd and held senior positions at AIA Public Takaful, including Head of Governance and Strategy.
Mohd Asri’s educational background includes a Master of Business Administration from Universiti Putra Malaysia and dual degrees in Shariah (LLBS) and Law (LLB) from the International Islamic University Malaysia.
