AI Malaysia Bhd Launched to Lead AI Nation 2030 Vision with Emphasis on Safety and Trust

Kuala lumpur: The establishment of AI Malaysia Bhd, a national artificial intelligence entity under the Ministry of Digital, marks a significant step toward achieving the AI Nation 2030 vision. This initiative aims to ensure that AI systems developed in Malaysia are human-centric, safe, and trustworthy.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, AI Malaysia Bhd functions as the central body coordinating policy and implementation at the national level. Through a whole-of-government approach, it will spearhead responsibilities such as policy coordination and high-impact monitoring to ensure the effective tracking of initiatives under the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030. This plan serves as a comprehensive guide to translate the AI Nation vision into actionable measures, focusing on talent development, innovation, and governance.

The government also introduced the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, marking it as a critical agenda for nation-building. The plan features two main components: 14 sectoral initiatives directly impacting socioeconomic growth and 14 supporting initiatives, all based on five core catalysts. These catalysts include Globally Competitive Human Capital, Market-Driven Innovation, Data and Computing Infrastructure, Responsible Governance, and Sustainable Financing and Investment.

AI Malaysia's responsibilities revolve around three core pillars: creating governance frameworks, ethics codes, and trust mechanisms; coordinating global AI partnerships; and serving as the national AI Safety Institute. To reinforce the third pillar, the Ministry of Digital announced the establishment of the Malaysia AI Safety Institute (MY-AISafe), aimed at bolstering technical capabilities by leveraging expertise from various sectors.

The ministry is also drafting the AI Governance Bill, which adopts a risk-based approach and is currently open for public consultation. This Bill is expected to provide legal protection while encouraging innovation, thereby enhancing confidence in Malaysia's digital ecosystem.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo emphasized that the establishment of AI Malaysia Bhd is a strategic step toward unifying policy coordination and implementation. Guided by the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030, the ministry is committed to building AI development on a foundation of trust, safety, and governance, supported by the AI Governance Bill and the Malaysia AI Safety Institute.

AI Malaysia Bhd was officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier today.
