Kuala lumpur: Artificial intelligence (AI) governance and ethics are important to ensure the technology is used for beneficial and positive purposes, while preventing its misuse by certain parties. Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Senior Vice-President (Corporate Affairs/Digital Industry Development) Datuk Fadzli Abdul Wahit emphasized the necessity of incorporating these aspects into the AI learning ecosystem to ensure the technology is used professionally and responsibly.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadzli stated, "Many people can use AI, but at the same time, we do not want people to misuse AI. They need to be professional. So governance and ethics are aspects of AI that we need to teach to prevent misuse. AI should be used for the benefit and good of future technology." He made these remarks to reporters after the Malaysia Digital Tour programme, which was officiated by Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim.
Meanwhile, Fadzli highlighted that MDEC is collaborating with digital platform partners, including TikTok, to prevent the misuse of such platforms for inappropriate sales activities. TikTok, he noted, has specific standards and methods to identify sales activities on its platform, thereby acting as a 'gatekeeper'.
He elaborated, "It must have certain standards and methods, and must not allow existing platforms to be misused to sell inappropriate things. So, it acts like a gatekeeper."
Fadzli also mentioned that JMD has identified five locations for the programme, with Damansara Damai being the first location last week, followed by Melaka today, while the remaining three locations would be determined later. The programme has garnered encouraging participation from entrepreneurs, students, and freelancers eager to learn about the latest technologies, including AI, to support businesses, learning, and the empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
"The initiative also supports the target of increasing the digital economy's contribution to 30 per cent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030, compared with 25 per cent currently," he said. To achieve this target, the Digital Ministry is strengthening digital platforms in terms of infrastructure, talent, capabilities, and knowledge through various skills enhancement programmes. He urged entrepreneurs to continuously upgrade their skills and leverage existing technologies to expand their businesses.
