Putrajaya: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced plans to reach out to 34 Malaysians involved in the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission. These Malaysian participants are part of a larger group of activists from 44 countries moving towards Gaza, showing resilience amid various challenges.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the flotilla is positioned approximately 750 nautical miles from Gaza and recently faced drone attacks. Ahmad Zahid expressed hope for their continued resilience against potential threats from Israel. He conveyed these sentiments during a media briefing following the launching ceremony of IKONDESA@Putrajaya.
In a video call with Ahmad Musa Al-Nuwayri Kamaruzaman, representing the GSF mission to Gaza, Ahmad Zahid extended Malaysians’ full support and prayers for the mission’s success. He emphasized the mission’s humanitarian nature and the Malaysian government’s concern for the Palestinians in Gaza.
Ahmad Musa reported that despite challenges such as drone attacks, air blasts, and suspected chemical assaults by the Israeli regime, the GSF participants remain determined. He highlighted incidents from the previous night involving 12 airstrikes affecting nine ships and drones releasing chemical substances that caused irritation to the participants.
The GSF mission, carrying essential supplies like food and medicine, aims to deliver messages of peace and is expected to reach Gaza by the month’s end. More than 1,000 global volunteers, including the 34 Malaysians, are participating in nearly 70 boats intending to break the siege on Gaza.
