Kuala lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi extended his congratulations to Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on his appointment as the Johor Menteri Besar today.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, described the trust given by the people to Onn Hafiz as a great mandate to continue leading Johor, prioritising the welfare of the people, political stability, and sustainable development. Ahmad Zahid expressed his confidence in Onn Hafiz's leadership, experience, and commitment, and hoped for Johor's continued success for the benefit of all its residents.

Ahmad Zahid's congratulatory message on Facebook extended wishes for strength, wisdom, and guidance to Onn Hafiz as he undertakes his new responsibilities. He also expressed his hope that Onn Hafiz would lead Johor Darul Ta'zim towards greater achievements.

Earlier, Onn Hafiz, who is also the Johor state assemblyman for Machap and Johor BN chairman, took the oath of office as the Johor MB before the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim. The ceremony was held at the Balai Mengadap, Istana Bukit Serene in Johor Bahru, where Onn Hafiz received his appointment letter.

Yesterday, BN secured a mandate in the 16th Johor state election with a two-thirds majority, winning 48 out of 56 state assembly seats.
