Kuala Lumpur: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has congratulated national men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and top national women’s doubles duo Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah for their victories at the Thailand Open. He said their wins would serve as a morale booster for major upcoming tournaments.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid also expressed his hope that all the players would continue their fight and bring glory to Malaysia on the world stage. He noted that both Malaysian pairs displayed strong and energetic performances at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok, a proud achievement for all Malaysians.
“Syabas Malaysia! Double victory! I extend my highest congratulations to the women’s doubles pair, Pearly Tan-M Thinaah, and the national men’s pair, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, on their success in winning the Thailand Open,” he said via a Facebook post.
Aaron-Wooi Yik clinched the title after overcoming Danish duo William Kryger Boe-Christian Faust Kjaer 20-22, 21-17, 21-12 in an hour-long match. Meanwhile, Pearly-Thinaah made history by defeating South Korea’s Jeong Na Eun-Lee Yeon Woo 21-16, 21-17 in 58 minutes, becoming the first Malaysian women’s pair to win the tournament since its inception in 1984.
