Kuala lumpur: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed hope that cooperation among the coalition's core parties, including the MIC, will continue to be strengthened. The Deputy Prime Minister said the rejoining of the People's Progressive Party (PPP) has further stabilised the coalition.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ahmad Zahid emphasized the importance of mutual respect among all component parties, particularly the core parties within BN. He highlighted the long-standing role of MIC as a core party since the days of the Alliance, alongside MCA and UMNO, and expressed a desire for these relationships to be reinforced.
However, Ahmad Zahid acknowledged the autonomy of the MIC in making decisions, specifically regarding its upcoming emergency meeting. He noted that any decisions made at this meeting are the party's prerogative.
The MIC president, Tan Sri S. A. Vigneswaran, announced plans for an emergency meeting to discuss the party's official participation in Perikatan Nasional (PN). He stated that while PN has approved MIC's potential inclusion in the opposition coalition, the formal process must be adhered to through appropriate channels.
