Ahmad Azam Appointed New PPZ-MAIWP Chairman

Kuala lumpur: Datuk Ahmad Azam Ab Rahman has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP), effective April 21 to Dec 31, 2028.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PPZ-MAIWP announced that Ahmad Azam fills the vacancy previously held by Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin, whose service concluded on Feb 14. The centre described Ahmad Azam's appointment as a strategic move to ensure the continuity of PPZ-MAIWP's leadership, with a focus on strengthening zakat and waqf collection functions in a structured and innovative manner for the benefit of the Muslim community.

Ahmad Azam, 66, is recognized for his contributions to humanitarian activities, international diplomacy, and community development. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Indiana State University and a Master of Business Administration from Stephen F Austin State University in the United States.

His career includes roles in various organizations such as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and the Institute of Policy Studies, as well as experience as a lecturer at the Institute for Islamic Studies. Ahmad Azam has also served as President of Wadah Pencerdasan Umat Malaysia (WADAH) and was a former President of the Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM). He founded the Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia and led missions in over 30 conflict and disaster-hit countries.

Additionally, Ahmad Azam has contributed as a Commissioner of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission from 2019 to 2025 and is currently serving as a Commissioner of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM).
