Kuala lumpur: Agrobank Group, in collaboration with its strategic partners under the Financial Education Network (FEN), today organised the e-Celik Kewangan Carnival on Perhentian Island as a proactive initiative to expand the adoption of digital payment systems on the resort island.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Agrobank Group president and chief executive officer, Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin, stated that the programme also involved various agencies, including the Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF). The initiative was launched at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Pulau Perhentian, officiated by Bank Negara Malaysia Deputy Governor Adnan Zaylani Mohamad Zahid.
He explained that Perhentian Island was chosen due to its community's reliance on tourism and the fishing industry. The digitalisation effort has seen positive engagement, with over 60 local merchants now accepting electronic and digital cashless payments. Agrobank has introduced the DuitNow QR code payment system as a method to facilitate these transactions.
The project on Perhentian Island follows a successful pilot on Pulau Sri Tanjung, Kelantan, and will soon be expanded to Kuala Perlis, Perlis. Tengku Ahmad Badli highlighted that Agrobank will offer financial management and digital marketing support to local traders over the next three months. The goal is to enhance understanding and usage of digital technology within the community.
Tengku Ahmad Badli added that this initiative is part of FEN's broader commitment, under the Ministry of Finance, to elevate financial literacy and inclusion among rural populations nationwide.
