Kuching: The aerospace sector plays a vital role in both the local and national economy, said Sarawak Minister of Transport Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin. He emphasized the importance of the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) Lundu in developing a highly skilled workforce to meet the growing demand of the aviation industry.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Lee highlighted Centexs Lundu’s significant contributions in directly supporting local airlines, such as Air Borneo, through its aerospace programmes. He made these remarks at a press conference following his visit to the Aerospace Academy.
Lee called for stronger collaboration between Centexs, Air Borneo, and other industry players to ensure that the training stays relevant to the evolving needs of the aviation sector. He noted that such cooperation is essential for maintaining the technical, operational, and safety standards crucial for the industry’s growth both domestically and internationally.
Centexs Lundu offers a variety of programmes, including the Certificate in Aerospace Machining Operation, Certificate in Aerospace Sheet Metal, and Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, which cover areas such as aeroplane and helicopter turbine maintenance and avionics. These programmes are designed to equip students with critical skills, preparing them to face real-world challenges in the aerospace sector.
